Professional portrait of a counsellor

Welcome

Thank you for visiting Locus of Life.

I was born and raised in Japan before moving to the UK following

a significant turning point in my life.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working as a cabin crew member for a Japanese airline, where I had the privilege of meeting people

from many different backgrounds.

Over the past 25 years of living in the UK, I have experienced both the joys

and the challenges of building a life in another country.

Living between cultures has taught me how easily we can lose touch with ourselves while trying to adapt to new environments, relationships and expectations.

Those experiences eventually led me to train as a counsellor.

Today, I work as a qualified counsellor trained in the UK and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

My work is grounded in the Person-Centred Approach while also drawing upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory and Inner Child work whenever appropriate.

Above all, I aim to offer a calm and compassionate space where you can reconnect with yourself at your own pace.

My Journey

A major turning point in my life was going through a divorce.

The years of separation, legal proceedings and rebuilding my life had

a profound impact on my self-esteem and sense of self. They became a time

when I had to reflect deeply on who I was and how I related to others.

At first, I found myself searching for answers outside myself, wondering

why I could not be understood and why everything felt so painful.

Over time, however, as I began to turn inward with greater honesty

and compassion, I gradually came to realise:

"I cannot change other people, but I can change how I respond

and how I choose to live."

That experience taught me the importance of turning towards my inner world,

and of having a safe space where difficult feelings could be spoken about

without judgement.

My understanding as a counsellor comes not only from professional training,

but also from lived experience.

Having married someone from a different cultural background and lived in the UK for 25 years, I understand the emotional challenges of building a life

between cultures, and the tensions that can arise when values

and expectations differ.

I also experienced divorce while raising my young son in the UK, giving me

a deep appreciation of the loneliness, uncertainty and emotional strain

that can accompany major life changes.

These experiences continue to shape the way I work. They help me support people facing not only cross-cultural challenges, but also relationship difficulties, stress, loss and the journey of reconnecting with themselves.

I aim to offer a calm, compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings honestly, and gradually reconnect with your own inner strength

at a pace that feels right for you.

I hope Locus of Life can become one place where you feel safe enough

to begin that journey.
